In a critical decision made on Wednesday, the Fulton County Commission voted against continuing much-needed financial support for veterans’ services and withdrew $3 million in funding for arts organizations. This outcome is deeply concerning, especially given assurances from some commissioners about maintaining the support that our community has come to rely on. With historical budget underruns ranging from $50 to $100 million annually and discussions about potential millage rate adjustments, the decision seems at odds with available resources. Furthermore, the needs expressed by the Public Defender for additional staffing, ongoing for the last two decades, remain unmet. These developments call for continued advocacy for veterans and the arts, as their contributions are vital to our county’s identity and growth.
