The capital budget makes up $409 million of Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson’s proposed $2.6 billion budget and maintains existing infrastructure like buildings, parks, and roads, and pays for new ones. Water Resources is responsible for the largest category of the capital budget at 42 percent, followed by 14 percent for transportation. This portion of the budget includes funding for SPLOST revenue-sharing with our cities, public safety, parks, technology, and other capital needs. In a critical decision made on Wednesday, the Fulton County Commission voted against continuing much-needed financial support for veterans' services and withdrew $3 million in funding for arts organizations. This outcome is deeply concerning, especially given assurances from some commissioners about maintaining the support that our community has come to rely on. With historical budget underruns ranging from $50 to $100 million annually and discussions about potential millage rate adjustments, the decision seems at odds with available resources. Furthermore, the needs expressed by the Public Defender for additional staffing, ongoing for the last two decades, remain unmet. These developments call for continued advocacy for veterans and the arts, as their contributions are vital to our county's identity and growth. It's imperative to press on towards a future where Fulton County unites in support and recognition of its veterans and arts. Stand with us in pushing forward this important cause. #FultonForward #OneFulton #SupportVeterans #ValueTheArts #CommunityAdvocacy
