GAINESVILLE-HALL CO. COMMUNITY FOOD DRIVE ONGOING FROM NOV. 7-25
In an effort to help those in need amid SNAP cuts amid the federal government shutdown, the City of Gainesville and Hall County Government have partnered to host a community food drive from Friday, Nov. 7-Tuesday, Nov. 25. The food drive will support the Georgia Mountain Food Bank, which will distribute donations to food-insecure households.
“SNAP, or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, provides food benefits to low-income families to supplement their grocery budget so they can afford the nutritious food essential to health and well-being,” said Gainesville Public Relations Director Christina Santee-Moss, according to the USDA Food and Nutrition Service. “While millions of families across the U.S. await reduced SNAP benefits, if they get even that, the City and County are hoping to assist local families now by partnering with the Georgia Mountain Food Bank and making the community’s ability to participate easier by establishing collection sites at 30-plus locations in Gainesville, and northern, eastern, western, and southern Hall County.”
