We celebrated nine current and four former Fulton County Jail residents who completed The “DOOR,” DeKalb Open Opportunities for Recovery Program, a powerful reentry and recovery pathway made possible through STAND, Inc. and the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office New Beginnings Initiative. Special thank you to The DOOR program coordinator Ms. Susan Maxwell. One graduate shared, “This is the first time in my life I’ve graduated from anything and really lets me know what is possible to achieve. This program taught me so much and means so much to me.” To signify the occasion, each graduate received a certificate of completion and hygiene care package, and the celebration ended with a special meal prepared by guest speaker Chef Darrin Ward, who is in his 25th year of recovery and reminded the graduates: “Today’s situation does not have to define your future. If you do the work and seek the support, it will get better.” #secondchances #newbeginnings #fcso
