Today marks the 25th anniversary of the death of Sheriff-elect Derwin Brown, whose life was taken before he could assume the office he earned through service and integrity. The DeKalb County Sheriffโs Office honors his commitment to justice, his courage, and his vision for a safer community. His legacy endures in the values he stood for and in the continued work of those inspired by his example. ๐๏ธ
The legacy of accessible and affordable healthcare continues to grow in DeKalb County. I had the privilege of witnessing the grand opening of a state-of-the-art medical facility in South DeKalbโanother milestone in a journey that began many years ago. When the Grady clinic at the Rainbow Plaza Kroger closed, I made it my mission to ensure that South DeKalb would never be without quality healthcare options. That commitment led to the successful fight for a new medical facility in the Kirkwood area. At the time, it was a significant victory for the communityโand it ignited a much larger vision. A decade later, while serving as Chair of the Planning, Economic & Community Services Committee, I helped guide the development of three new medical facilities across DeKalb County. Two of these are located in District 3, where I proudly served as Commissioner for more than 20 years. Iโve now watched that vision come to life with the opening on Flat Shoals Parkway, another soon to open at Candler/McAfee Plaza, and a third on the horizon. These facilities represent more than new buildingsโthey represent access, equity, and the long-term health of our residents. Thank you to the DeKalb CEO and the Board of Commissioners for their partnership in ensuring that the promise made to this community has been kept. This is the work that changes lives, strengthens neighborhoods, and secures a healthier future for all. #Legacy #Healthcare #SouthDeKalb #ForThePeople #TheHonorableLarryJohnson #LarryJohnsonForSenate
