GAINESVILLE-HALL CO. COMMUNITY FOOD DRIVE ONGOING FROM NOV. 7-25 In an effort to help those in need amid SNAP cuts amid the federal government shutdown, the City of Gainesville and Hall County Government have partnered to host a community food drive from Friday, Nov. 7-Tuesday, Nov. 25. The food drive will support the Georgia Mountain Food Bank, which will distribute donations to food-insecure households. โSNAP, or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, provides food benefits to low-income families to supplement their grocery budget so they can afford the nutritious food essential to health and well-being,โ said Gainesville Public Relations Director Christina Santee-Moss, according to the USDA Food and Nutrition Service. โWhile millions of families across the U.S. await reduced SNAP benefits, if they get even that, the City and County are hoping to assist local families now by partnering with the Georgia Mountain Food Bank and making the communityโs ability to participate easier by establishing collection sites at 30-plus locations in Gainesville, and northern, eastern, western, and southern Hall County.โ If interested in contributing to the food drive, please visit hallcounty.org to view the full press release, including a list of acceptable healthy food items and all available donation locations. For food drive-related questions, please email the City of Gainesville, csantee@gainesvillega.gov, or Hall County Government, pio@hallcounty.org. For food distribution-related questions, please call the Georgia Mountain Food Bank at 770-534-4111.
